Chicago-born, raised in rural Illinois. NIU grad. Sent stories to magazines from 1961 until first sale in 1968 (Redbook). Moved to LA with 1st wife, 1st son, and 1st screenplay. This first script opened the door into the network television business in 1973. I was 32.
TV films and novels followed until first feature in 1981, Sharky’s Machine with Burt Reynolds. Features, more TV films, novels, and stage plays followed until 1996 when feature Phenomenon with John Travolta established me firmly in features (though plays, stories, and novellas continued).
Living rural again in California’s Santa Ynez Valley; sons grown and writing; wife, Christine, former jazz singer, deals in antiques. We volunteer and she paints and I write and write and write. Still loving it all.
